Filterfloor, an innovative solution for livestock farmers, inspired by nature

Agriculture and nature must reinforce each other rather than hinder each other. That is the idea behind regenerative agriculture. Within the framework of the Paris Climate Agreement 2020-2050 to halt climate change, we have been working for years on an ingenious innovation based on a simple principle: nature as a source of inspiration.

Impulse for transition to climate-neutral agriculture

In order to achieve climate-neutral agriculture, we need a transition in our thinking and actions. Filterfloor contributes to the circular food system with a solution that is as simple as it is versatile. Besides Filterfloor contributes to the restoration of degraded soil, greater biodiversity, a better mineral cycle and the reduction of emissions.

What problems does Filterfloor solve?

Where urine and faeces come into contact with each other – for example on stable floors and in slurry storage – harmful gases are formed. For example, the contact between the enzyme urease from faeces and urea in urine causes a chemical reaction which results in ammonia. The formation of slurry causes two undesirable effects: firstly, the formation of emissions such as ammonia gas and greenhouse gas emissions, which are harmful to the air quality in the barn and outside. Secondly, the mineral and organic matter content decreases as a result of the rotting process that occurs during slurry storage.
By separating urine and faeces at the source with the Filterfloor, the emission will be reduced and minerals and organic matter will remain better available for fertilization of plants and nutrition of the soil.

Nature as inspiration

We found our inspiration in the natural purification of groundwater. This water has already been thoroughly purified because it travels a long way through several layers of clay, sand, gravel and rocks that together form an excellent, natural filter. This natural method of filtration is the foundation of the Filterfloor.

Filterfloor a natural solution

The Filterfloor mimics the natural filtration process of groundwater. The panels consist of a recyclable plastic grid and synthetic moisture-permeable layers that drains the urine and leaves the thick faeces on the surface.
These layers form a dry and slightly soft surface. The filtering effect and the flexible character of the layers guarantee comfort and urine flow. The thick fraction can be removed manually or mechanically and stored in a solid manure storage.

Filterfloor is a start-up that develops and markets a unique, patented Filterfloor system for manure separation at the source. As a start-up, we have gained several years of experience. The development has reached the final phase, which is why we are looking for early adopters who are prepared to give access to their barns for testing the patented Filterfloor system. These pilot projects are intended for research into final emission measurements.

Filterfloor is a revolutionary barn floor system that separates urine and faeces at the source.

The Filterfoor prevents slurry formation, so that minerals and organic matter remain more available and emissions are greatly reduced.
